The clothes we are receiving from this body has been such a blessing to our community. Needed men’s jeans plus shoes for men, women and children. All gently used clothes are always welcome. Our stock of supplies for the Care Bags is running low. We need bottled water, trial-sized shampoo, toothpaste and soap. Protein items such as peanut butter, cheese or tuna and crackers packages. Items may be dropped at the Admin. Center or the Care Bag bins located in the WC and FLC foyers. Please label your bags of donations.

New Sermon Series on Isaiah

“Turned to me and be saved…for I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
(Is. 45:22) This is the theme of Isaiah: “God saves sinners”.
Isaiah was a prophet who recorded some remarkable prophecies centering
on the coming of God’s Messiah. The 53rd chapter of his prophecy is
such a clear picture of Christ that this book is often called “The
gospel according to Isaiah.” God’s plan of redemption and his work of
redemption are central in this prophecy. That is even suggested in the
name of the prophet himself — Isaiah, which means “God saves.” If
you want to know about God’s redemptive grace this study is for you.

COTN Needing Help in Haiti

Response Effort. These initial funds will go to address the immediate needs, namely medical care and food/water. More funds are desperately needed, so please DONATE TODAY.

As we enter Day 3 of the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the overwhelming need remains.

There are THREE ways you can help:

GIVE – Your financial support is greatly needed. To date, over $25,000 has come in toward our Haiti Earthquake Response Effort. These first donations will go toward meeting the immediate needs of the earthquake victims: providing medical personnel, medical care/supplies, food, and water. Our response effort will be determined as funding allows. Mid-term and long-term needs, which will also require the financial support of our partners, are currently being identified—more details forthcoming.

GO – Medical supplies and personnel (doctors, surgeons, nurses, and trauma/grief counselors) have been identified as the two GREATEST needs. COTN–USA is currently mobilizing medical teams to depart for the Dominican Republic to tend to the patients filling the hospitals near the border and in the Barahona region and also to head into Haiti as needed. GATHER – We are currently arranging transportation for one to two 40-ft. shipping containers of food and supplies from our USA warehouse. As we deplete our inventories both in the USA and the Dominican Republic, these goods will need to be replenished so that we are able to continue to minister to the children in our care. Donations of medical supplies and SmilePacks™ (particularly Hygiene packs and “Let’s Eat” packs) are requested. Visit our donate resources page for up-to-date needs. Special Series with Art Azurdia: "Connected Christianity"

Starting on Feb. 14th, we will be having Art Azurdia, from Western Seminary, do a special four week series called, Connected Christianity. This series is a clarion call to Christians to robustly engage with the world we live in for the sake of the gospel. It calls us to be both Christian AND worldly, surely an unnerving tension when first considered but absolutely necessary if we are to truly reach the lost of this world we live in with the gospel they so desperately need to hear.

“This commission is your commission. You need to feel the weightiness of it. You need to own responsibility for it. It is not the commission merely of your church’s pastor. The work of evangelism is not reserved to one man who stands in front of the people on the Lord’s Day, or occasionally goes out into the open air. This is the job and responsibility and privilege of every one who names the name of Jesus Christ.”

But how do we engage the world meaningfully without compromising the integrity of our Christianity? Is it possible for a follower of Jesus Christ to be both “worldly” and Christian? These are the questions this series of messages seeks to answer.

Missional Opportunity

Missional Opportunity. Serenity House is trying to organize a “Warming Station” for the homeless. The hope is to have the Street Outreach Shelter (SOS, the drop-in overnight shelter) open during the day. The success of this depends entirely on the availability of volunteers to supervise folks. Outreach with Care Bags needs some help

Outreach with Care Bags Care Bags were created this past summer by a group of people concerned about reaching out to those
in need. Care Bags are small brown paper bags that hold a protein item, peanut butter crackers, individual fruit packs, dessert (like a cookie or pudding), toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo and water. This winter we hope to include lotion, space blankets and socks. Needed for Care Bags: shampoo, soap, (hotel size), bottled water, also running low on tooth brushes, small sized toothpaste, socks and space blankets. You may drop these off at the Administration Center or at the WC Information Desk, marked “Care Bags.”

2010 Couples Retreat

Biblical IBC 2010 Couples Retreat This year we are encouraging couples to sign up for the Family Life Marriage Conference Family Life Weekend to Remember. It is Friday–Sunday, February 26–28, at the Empress in Victoria, BC. Register with IBC by January 31, $178 per couple plus hotel, meals and ferry cost. Some scholarships available.
